What Is the Difference Between Epoxy and Paint?
Epoxy is a two-part product that consists of an epoxy resin and a hardener that must be mixed together before use. It is crucial to remember that, unlike paint, epoxy is a high-solids substance, which means it contains very little water (often less than 2% by volume) and will never dry until combined with the hardener. When the epoxy and hardener are combined, the epoxy cures and the components begin to cross-link. This cross-linking is responsible for the strength of epoxy. Paint is often a water-based acrylic latex substance. When a thin layer of paint is applied to a surface, the water evaporates and the paint dries.
How Do You Get the Floor Prepared?
Every garage floor coating process begins with the concrete being ground with a concrete grinder, which employs metal-bonded diamond tooling to abrade the surface of the concrete as well as remove contaminates such as oil, grime, and grease. Consider this technique to be similar to sanding a piece of wood before painting or staining it. The holes and cracks are then fixed and smoothed. Before coating, the floor is swept, cleaned, and/or washed.
How Long Does the Process Take?
Prepping and coating your garage floor can take anywhere from 2-4 days, depending on the size of the garage, the quality of the original concrete, and the epoxy technique used. Make an appointment for your free estimate now.
